Sustainability Policies

Sustainability is being and feeling Quinta Camarena. Nor is there any other option. From the increasingly deep connection and sharing with the local community, to the care with all the planning in the construction of the farm, respecting ecosystems, regeneration and circularity is almost perfect. Daily practices such as organic farming, conscious use of water and electricity circuits, composting, waste reduction and reuse of materials, avoiding the use of plastic, are visible everywhere. Healthy and conscious eating is also shared with the guests. To maintain authenticity, they have a partnership with AMAP, an incredible project of family farming and solidarity. Contribute by booking your meals in advance.

Who are we

Love has no boundaries and here we have a good example. A girl from Porto and a Californian who fell in love with each other, and both with the place that is now Quinta Camarena. Also in love with a sustainable lifestyle, they left the hustle and bustle of New York for the peace of Cercal do Alentejo. They exchanged the speed of online ordering for the proximity of their neighbours, where they do their daily shopping, with some nice talking. Still with dreams growing on the Quinta, Vera and Cam, welcome you with the hospitable smile of the world, but with the traditions of the Alentejo. They will be your guides, so you can enjoy the best of the Quinta and the Region, with the authenticity it deserves. Slowly,… as you want in the Alentejo.

The Footprint

As a pet friendly unit, where your furry friends are welcome, supporting a kennel is no surprise. By staying at Quinta da Camareira, you will be contributing to the AFA – Associação S. Francisco de Assis in Santiago do Cacém, the municipality where the Quinta is located. The AFA is a non-profitable institution for the defence and protection of homeless animals, which works 100% on a voluntary basis. Your stay will contribute to one meal for these animals. You can also increase your contribution by becoming a member for just €1/month (€12/year) or sponsor one of your favourites, after a visit to AFA. They will thank you for the treats, but we won’t be responsible if you can’t leave without a new friend.

PURPOSE

The Community

Living and sharing with neighbours has always been the Camarena’s way. Doors are open to welcome all those who are close by, as well as those who come from further away. If, on one hand, purchases are made from local suppliers, favouring the work of AMAP; on the other, the partners in the experiences are also local, so that we can contribute in a positive way to the development of the region and at the same time be sure that visitors receive pure authenticity. Just like the support to local craftsmen, which helps to keep traditions alive.
The Quinta also welcomes Volunteers from International Programmes, promoting equality between generations and diversity of cultures through the exchange of different experiences.
