Alzheimer Portugal is an IPSS and the only organisation in Portugal, of national scope, formed more than 30 years ago specifically to promote the quality of life of People with Dementia and their relatives and carers. As a member of Alzheimer Europe, it actively participates in the world and European movement on dementias, seeking to gather and divulge the most recent knowledge on Alzheimer’s Disease, promoting its study, the investigation of its causes, effects, prophylaxis and treatments. It is also part of the Plataforma Saúde em Diálogo (Health in Dialogue Platform), a non-profit association made up of patient associations, health promoters and professionals and consumers, whose main objective is to give a voice to patients and health users, contributing to the evolution of a health system that is increasingly more patient-centred.
Its mission: to improve the quality of life of People with Dementia and their carers, with absolute respect for the fundamental rights to freedom and self-determination, promoting their autonomy and social involvement.
